Photos in the National Parks is an online, interactive map displaying social media activity in the National Parks. Over 300,000 Instagram posts were collected around the 10 most-visited National Parks in 2015. This data allows us to see user activity over time and place, creating maps of visitor activity that has never before been available. View multiple photographs from the same locations, see remote outposts, or see photographs follow the rivers and valleys of the parks.
The data was collected and parsed in python. An explanation of that process is available on github.
The site itself was created using Node, React, Leaflet and D3. That code is also on github.
